From “Snowbird” Seasons to Full-Time Florida Life
“Snowbirds,” or people who live in warmer climates just for the colder months of the year, have been around for decades. However, with the drastic changes our world has been facing, snowbirds have been feeling a shift, too. These visitors who once only wanted to escape winter now want an enjoyable place to live and work from home all year round. The many incredible aspects of our Florida lifestyle are what attracts them here.
They’re drawn to the too-many-to-count golf and tennis courses and clubs, the boating opportunities, the elegant (often waterfront) outdoor dining, the fabulous art scene, and so much more.
You can read a full writeup of why it is exactly that more people are moving to Florida full-time here. Below, we’ll look into some of the key aspects of the Sunshine State life you don’t want to miss:
Stone Crab Season
If you’ve never tasted a Stone Crab, you’ve been missing out on something spectacular. We enjoy the claws, and the crabs are able to grow them back over and over again. Their flavor is brought out best in butter or mustard sauce, and they can be served either cold or hot.
Stone Crab Season kicked off October 15th runs through the middle of May. Our succulent stone crabs are served at many local restaurants, as well as sold at grocery stores and fish markets to bring home. Make sure you have them crack the claws (less mess and easier) and enjoy that day if you’re bringing home!
Life is Better on a Boat
If you agree with the above statement in the slightest, Florida is the state for you. We not only have access to incredible boating locations, but many boat clubs as well (which are extremely convenient and affordable compared to owning, storing, and caring for a boat of your own).
Freedom Boat Club is a top-notch boat club, offering pontoons, deck boats, sailboats, kayaks, wake surfing boats, and more. Michael Saunders offers a generous discount program that will get you $1000 off your initial entry fee as well as a discount on monthly payments that’s good for life.
Stay Busy in the Sun
Florida has a fantastic activity scene to keep you having fun day after day. Below are some regular events that you can expect to see in the Sunshine State:
Art Scene: WestCoast Black Theatre – Light Up the Night
This socially distanced outdoor performance will be filled with 1960’s and 70’s R&B classics to “Light Up Your Night.” West Coast Black Theatre’s talented members put on entertaining shows often for you to enjoy.
Beach Life: Sunday Drum Circle at Siesta Key
This incredible weekly event brings together artists and dancers, locals and tourists, and children and adults for a night of dancing in the sand, admiring the sunset, and experiencing a unique atmosphere filled with unity and peace. It’s also conveniently located at the #1 beach in Florida (and one of the top 25 beaches in the entire world), Siesta Key.
Outdoor Shopping: St. Armands Events
St. Armands Circle is an incredible place to shop, with its beautiful location, luxury stores, excellent dining options, and its selection of salons and spas for pampering and self-care.
Its shopping events make it even better; coming up, St. Armands will host a Fall Sidewalk Sale and a Ladies Night Out. You can count on similar events to enjoy throughout the year.
Music Events: Nathan Benderson Park Fiesta Friday’s
Enjoy music, food, drinks, and the company of friends and neighbors as a new, talented band performs each month.
As you can see by the few incredible pieces listed above, the Florida lifestyle is something you won’t want to miss. If you’ve been a “snowbird” in the past and you’re looking for something more, consider joining this wonderful life and moving to Florida full-time.
