Last weekend, my husband and I took advantage of a beautiful, spring evening by walking along Marina Jack’s Bayfront Park. We felt like tourists among the people jogging, riding bikes and pushing strollers.
The sailboats bobbing in the water, the water lapping along the shore, the many different languages being spoken…all so reminiscent of a European city…right in our backyard!
From there, we crossed the bridge to St. Armand’s Circle (a place I drive through every day on way to my Longboat Key office). We imagined ourselves as visitors and remembered our own feelings 26 years ago when we first experienced the Circle and how it was instrumental in our decision to move our three children to Sarasota.
Since my husband is from Europe, he immediately felt at home here among the boutique shops and wonderful restaurants. The ambiance engulfed him and the course of our life took a new direction.
Our own experience helps me to understand the attraction that Sarasota has for so many foreigners who brilliantly choose to make Sarasota “their home away from home.”
