Property of the Century: Privacy & Sweeping Views on Sarasota Bay

Survey Says: Privacy is the Ultimate Luxury

The other day I was reading an interesting Business Insider article (“Privacy is becoming the ultimate luxury for wealthy homebuyers”) that talked about a recent survey of the world’s wealthiest people. The Luxury Portfolio International survey asked people this question: “If you were wealthy enough to afford whatever house you wanted, what would be first on your list?” And the most frequent answer to the question was privacy.

Privacy is so sought out by the wealthy that often people purchase the homes on either side of their house and across the street. A home with privacy is a retreat from the busy world outside and a refuge for friends and family members.

One of the Most Private Properties in Sarasota

I’m not exaggerating – my listing at 3250 Old Oak Drive is one of the most private properties in Sarasota.

This waterfront property near the North Siesta Key Bridge is almost three acres, a size practically unheard of these days. The large lot size, plus dense foliage of beautiful oaks and specimen plantings, means you won’t see your neighbors or people driving by to take a look. You’ll just see greenery and a sweeping view of Sarasota Bay.

Now is your chance to snap up this one-of-a-kind ultra-private property that’s been owned by one of Sarasota’s oldest families for over 60 years. Listed at $3.95 million, you really won’t find a more private property in such an ideal location that’s just minutes to downtown, Southside Village and our world-class beaches.

And this property is the perfect place to build your dream house. Don’t settle for a home that’s not quite to your liking – here you can create a custom luxury compound to your exact specifications.

You’ll be hard-pressed to top the privacy and beauty of 3250 Old Oak Drive. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Watch this virtual video tour of the property. It just might inspire you to make this special place your very own.

Sarasota Boom Continues with Downtown and Siesta Key Developments

27 Aug 2016 Posted by Marcia Salkin in Condo or Townhome, Downtown, Sarasota Luxury Real Estate, Siesta Key

It’s no secret – this year has been gangbusters for growth in Sarasota.

A year ago, we wrote to you in this very blog about how much growth we were seeing in Sarasota, especially with downtown condos. Today, we’re still seeing an incredible level of construction and development all over town.

For you, this means an unprecedented number of choices and opportunities. Never before have you had this many options in terms of how you want to live in Sarasota, whether luxury condo living, elegant waterfront homes or authentically artsy neighborhoods are more your style.

If you’re one of those folks who can’t get enough of the Sarasota sunsets, Océane Siesta Key might be ideal. These condominium residences will offer the utmost in exclusivity. There are only six units and they each offer resort-style living on Sarasota’s most famous island. The contemporary Océane will be situated on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, in walking distance to Siesta Key Village and the beach. The residences start at $3.8 million.

And if you like to get out on the water often, there’s no better place than the forthcoming Whitaker Bayou Yacht Club. This development will offer 156 multi-family condos in three four-story buildings. The major plus here (in addition to the great location just minutes from downtown Sarasota) are the 50 boat slips available to owners. While prices aren’t certain yet, most units will likely be around $400,000 and some larger units will be about $800,000.

Then there’s The Mark, which is smack dab in the heart of downtown Sarasota. It offers luxury condo residences from the $700s. This latest development from the prolific Kolter group (also responsible for the much-talked-about Vue Sarasota Bay) will feature shopping and dining on the ground floor, as well as executive offices.

One of the most thrilling neighborhoods in Sarasota right now is the Rosemary District. It’s been experiencing its own boom time in recent months, and the newest addition is Risdon on 5th, designed by architecture firm Halflants and Pichette. The 28-unit project could offer a new, lower price point for the convenient-to-downtown area, with units possibly starting in the $300s. Those units will include 18 condos, four penthouses and six commercial spaces.

This is an exciting time for Sarasota, whether you’re a long-time resident or are just moving to our sophisticated, tropical paradise. Remember – your options are endless for creating a customized, luxury life in Sarasota that you absolutely love.

Harbor Acres at its Best

Harbor Acres Sarasota FLFor decades, Harbor Acres has been one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Sarasota.

It offers stunning views of the Bayfront, elegant waterfront and garden homes and convenience to the best areas in Sarasota. The neighborhood is just a short walk to the ever popular shops and restaurants in downtown Sarasota and Southside Village.

Professionals, retired executives and families make their home in Harbor Acres, seeking the classic charm of the quiet Sarasota community.

Harbor Acres Real Estate Sarasota FLIt can be hard to find the perfect home in Harbor Acres for one main reason – people don’t want to leave. Harbor Acres homeowners tend to live there for many years, so when a stunning Harbor Acres home goes on the market, you have to snap it up quickly.

That’s why I’m so excited about my new listing at 1204 Hillview Drive in Harbor Acres. It’s a timeless 7,600+-square-foot home , listed for $7,750,000, built in 2008 and designed by award-winning architect Clifford M. Scholz.

Harbor Acres Luxury Homes Sarasota FLScholz is known for his stunning coastal classic homes. In fact, a Scholz-designed home on Longboat Key was a finalist last year in the Wall Street Journal’s House of the Year awards.

The five-bedroom+ home at 1204 Hillview Drive has sweeping Bayfront views that span the tip of Harbor Acres. All the major rooms enjoy beautiful views plus the two 50’ terraces are perfect spots to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the nightly sunsets.

The resort-like pool area is the ideal spot for entertaining and enjoying some weekend family fun. A refreshing swim in the pool can be followed by a bay cruise – the home includes a dock for quick and easy boating expeditions.

Sarasota…a water lovers paradise

When most people think about the waterfront in the Sarasota area, they think of our gorgeous white sandy beaches on our Barrier Islands.  This recent Michael Saunders Blog shares waterfront lifestyles on the beach, on the Bayfront, on canals, rivers, bayous and creeks.  I am thrilled that it names one of my listings at 2300 Wason Road with 300’ on the scenic Phillippi Creek as a great example of waterfront living.

The Sanderling Club…Siesta Key’s Waterfront Gem

14 Oct 2014 Posted by Marcia Salkin in Gulf front, Luxury Home, Siesta Key, Single Family Home, Waterfront Homes

The only guard-gated single family home community on Siesta Key. A tropical oasis comprised mostly  of gulf front , bay front and Lagoon front residences concealed from the roads by mature trees and lush landscaping.

Atlanta-born Elbridge S. Boyd was one of Siesta Key’s earliest developers.  Before embarking on Sanderling, he had  previous successes with the  Turtle Beach Cabana Club, Hidden Harbor, Cocoanut Bayou and Cedar Park Circle (Still some of our most beautiful Siesta Key neighborhoods).  He began developing  Siesta Properties (Sanderling) in 1946 for those wanting to avoid the rigors of northern winter winters.

Most of the original beach cottages were used for  a three month getaway and  have been razed to make way for the Gulf front mansions standing today. Most of the properties have at least 100′ of water frontage housing a variety of architectural styles from Contemporary to Asian to Old Florida.  The natural beauty of  The Sanderling Club is the perfect backdrop for

Stacy Hanan and I have just listed a 8,000 sq. ft. gulf front home at 7902 Sanderling Road for $7,195,000 with 156′ stretching across the beach and extending to the boat docks on Heron Lagoon, it’s an ideal haven for entertaining and relaxing.

As in many of our exclusive neighborhoods, there is not much inventory.   Prices range from $1,700,000 for a lagoon front residence to $10,900,000 for a wonderful Asian Inspired Gulf front  paradise.  Earlier this year, a 7600 sq. ft. Guy Peterson contemporary on the beach at 8250 Sanderling Road sold for $8,850,000.

The Sanderling Club offers a gulf front Paul Rudolf designed clubhouse, beach cabanas, playground, boat docks and 3 tennis courts.  A lovely lifestyle on Siesta Key!

Sarasota’s Most Admired Waterfront Estate

18 Oct 2012 Posted by Marcia Salkin in Luxury Home, Siesta Key, Single Family Home

With three barrier islands and miles of mainland bayfront properties, there is no lack of luxury real estate in Sarasota.  Most of the bayfront properties in the Sarasota area will have 100′ of water-frontage with 125′ depth to the property.  Although this is great, once you put a 3500+ sq. ft. home on the property with a pool and put your boat on the dock’s lift, most of your beloved property and gorgeous views are absorbed.

Sarasota’s Most Admired Waterfront Estate

There is one property in Sarasota that rises above the rest–not only does it have 220′ of direct bayfront on Big Pass, it also has 280′ along the deep waters of Hansen Bayou.  The views never need to be blocked either- there is a private, deep water boat house at the rear of the property.  “Grandfathered- in”, this one of a kind boathouse in features two docks with lifts, remote controlled kayak lift, live well and a one-bedroom suite Captain’s Quarters.  Incredible!

Deep water boathouse at 3410 Flamingo Avenue on Siesta Key

In addition to the boating aspects of this property, the 6500+ sq. ft. custom Coastal-designed home is one of the beautiful in the area.  Reminiscent of a grand “Old Florida” inn with wood floors, large verandas and views from every room, this gated 6 bedroom estate is located on the Northern tip of Siesta Key overlooking the city lights of Downtown Sarasota and only seconds from the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
